Learning Center
"The mission of the Cancer Learning Center at Huntsman Cancer
Institute is to encourage and empower patients and the public to become active participants in
their health care by increasing their knowledge and understanding of cancer topics relevant to
their personal health needs."
The Cancer Learning Center is a unique program for education about cancer, its causes and
prevention, and options for treatment. Trained health educators assist patients and the public
in accessing current, easy-to-understand information about cancer and new developments in cancer research.
The Learning Center
- Provides information and support for cancer patients and their loved ones during
diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
- Offers free services to the public, patients, the community, and health professionals.
- Contains 4,000 cancer-related books, newsletters, videos and audiotapes, as well as
computers that facilitate online research.
Patient and Public Education Resources
- Trained health educators provide personal assistance in both English and Spanish.
- The toll-free Huntsman Cancer Information Service provides accurate, up-to-date
information about all aspects of cancer (888) 424-2100.
- The Huntsman Online Patient Education (HOPE) Guide is a web-based tool that offers cancer
patients, their loved ones, and the public free access to a collection of resources and
documents about cancer.
- Cancer-related documents, complimentary brochures and pamphlets, books, audiotapes and
videotapes that cover a variety of cancer-specific issues are available for free.
- A Cancer Awareness Calendar links to organizations sponsoring events associated with
cancer.
