HCI's Community Outreach program is designed to heighten the public's awareness and
knowledge of cancer-related topics. This program strives to fulfill the Huntsman
Cancer Institute's mission of "...educating the public about cancer risk, prevention and care."
This program provides presentations to public groups upon request. Subject matter
includes nutrition and cancer prevention; the general biology and development of
cancer, prevention strategies, and warning signs of cancer; screening and early
detection of breast and cervical cancer; skin cancer prevention and early detection;
tobacco cessation; and an overview of HCI's programs and services.
The Huntsman Cancer Institute is represented at health fairs and other wellness
related events in the community with an educational booth that incorporates written
information and promotional items. They are staffed with Cancer Information
Specialists and HCI volunteers.
