In January 2005, Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) and Intermountain Healthcare
(Intermountain) announced an alliance. This agreement created the Huntsman-Intermountain
Cancer Care Program, which combines HCI’s leadership in laboratory,
population sciences, and clinical research with Intermountain’s
nationally recognized expertise in clinical quality improvement and program
development.
The program allows HCI researchers to use data about cancer care and outcomes
from throughout the Mountain States region, so optimal approaches for
cancer treatment can be determined. It makes clinical trials widely available,
so more patients can receive the most advanced medicines and treatment
protocols. And it increases the opportunities for cancer research on many
fronts: the causes, the best ways to deliver care, methods of identifying
people with increased risk, and prevention.
Working together, HCI and Intermountain combine their strengths. As this
alliance continues, so will improvements in cancer research, care, and
prevention.
