What is gynecologic oncology?

Gynecologic oncology is the study and treatment of cancers that occur in the female reproductive organs. These include cancers of the cervix, ovaries, uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina, and vulva.

Who are gynecologic oncologists?

Gynecologic oncologists are doctors who specialize in cancers of the female reproductive organs.

After medical school, these doctors complete four years of training as obstetrician-gynecologists, plus an additional two to four years of intensive medical training in the study and treatment of gynecologic cancers. Training includes the biology and pathology of these cancers as well as surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and clinical trials.

Studies show that women with cancers of the reproductive organs have better prognoses when treated by gynecologic oncologists.

These gynecologic oncologists are affiliated with Huntsman Cancer Institute, University of Utah Hospital, LDS Hospital, and Primary Children’s Medical Center:
