Pain Medicine and Palliative Care is a holistic program offering medical
treatments and complementary therapies. We are available to address
physical, emotional, and interpersonal needs at the time of diagnosis,
during or after cancer treatment, or with progressive disease. Our goal
is to enhance quality of life for cancer patients and their families,
while respecting personal values and preferences.
PAIN MEDICINE
Uncontrolled pain can interfere with cancer treatment and affects
quality of life. Our team of medical specialists and other health care
professionals provides a variety of pain treatments:
- medications
- anesthetic and surgical procedures
- physical therapies
- psychological, cognitive, behavioral interventions
Utilizing currently available methods, pain can be managed without
causing addiction or other difficult side effects.
PALLIATIVE CARE
Palliative care is a comprehensive approach to care that enhances
quality of life for patients and their families. Palliative care
includes:
- medical management of pain and other symptoms such as nausea and fatigue
- psychological and spiritual support for patients and their families
- advance care planning when disease is incurable
- rehabilitation
- psychiatric care
Palliative care is an integral part of cancer care whether a person has
just been diagnosed, is in active treatment, has been successfully
treated, or has terminal illness.
HOLISTIC MEDICINE
Holistic medicine promotes wellness. If you are interested in reducing
your risk of cancer or if you have been diagnosed, we may make referrals
to providers of:
- massage therapy
- hypnosis
- guided imagery
- relaxation
- stress management
- nutritional support
- acupuncture
- other services
