Physical activity is an important part of cancer recovery. It helps do the following:
- reduce fatigue
- increase strength and endurance
- improve mood and self-esteem
- increase quality of life and independence
The Wellness Center Fitness Program creates an exercise prescription for cancer patients based on diagnosis, treatment
type and phase, and personal
fitness goals. It includes these services:
- a physical assessment
- individual exercise program design and monitoring
- group circuit training
- community-based fitness activities

Wellness Center Fitness Program staff includes: Patrick Troumbley, program coordinator; Kimberly Walker,
cancer exercise specialist; and Pamela Hansen, MD, medical director. The Wellness Center’s executive secretary is Amaloa Rodriquez.
Community-Based Fitness Activities
After participants attain a base level of fitness, they are encouraged to attend seasonal activities sponsored by the Wellness Center:
- aquatoning classes
- road biking
- fly fishing
- hiking
- rowing
- snowshoeing
Through these activities, participants increase their fitness levels as well as enjoy the company of others dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
