Acquiring a facial defect can be devastating to social interactions and self-esteem, creating new obstacles and challenges to daily life. One goal of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s facial prosthetics service is to create a realistic and functional prostheses specifically designed for you—so you can feel comfortable and not have to think about your facial defect or prosthesis every time you interact with others. Mr. Wally Brookins of Montana was given a prosthetic nose soon after cancer surgery. After returning home and waiting for his skin to completely heal, Mr. Brookins returned to Huntsman Cancer Hospital to change the shape and recolor the prosthesis in a few areas. KSL reports on Mr. Brookin’s change of life just weeks after receiving his prosthesis despite its unfinished condition.
