Medical oncologists recommend and prescribe systemic therapy to people diagnosed with breast cancer. For those whose cancer is confined to the breast and/or lymph nodes, the goals of treatment are to reduce the risk of the cancer recurring to the best of our ability. When breast cancer has spread to other organs outside the breast, medical oncologists aim to confine the disease as much as possible. In all cases, we focus on quality of life issues and work in partnership with the patient. The medical oncology team at Huntsman Cancer Institute consists of physicians who specialize in the treatment of breast cancer, as well as nurses, nurse practitioners, and social workers who collaborate to help best meet an individual’s needs and concerns. |
