Oncology Nurse Practitioner
Janet Bloch is an oncology nurse practitioner of the Breast
Cancer Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute. Bloch received her MS and Family Nurse
Practitioner certification from the Pace University Graduate School of Nursing in New York.
Before joining Huntsman Cancer Institute, she served as an oncology nurse educator and
consultant with Oncology Education Services, a division of the Oncology Nursing Society. She
also served as executive director of the Breast Cancer Care Program at the Hollings Cancer
Center and was on the faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina. Before relocating
to South Carolina, Janet was nurse practitioner for the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Program
at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts.
Bloch’s special interest is in the area of cancer survivorship; she was
appointed director of Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Wellness and Survivorship Program in
2005. She initiated Huntsman Cancer Institute’s Fitness Program, which aims to help those
being treated for cancer reduce fatigue and improve mood, self-esteem, strength, and
endurance. Bloch has participated in breast cancer education projects that include acting
as a medical consultant for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer website’s "Anatomy of
Breast Cancer" interactive program. She also participated as a thought leader for the
CD-ROM educational program for oncology nurses, "Healing Conversation: Effective
Communication for Breast Cancer Care." Bloch served on the Board and chaired the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation’s Community Grants Committee in Charleston, South
Carolina and has captained many Race for the Cure teams.
