Aquacise at Huntsman Cancer Institute Wellness Center can benefit multiple myeloma patientsMyeloma patients should try to remain active during treatment. Exercise can decrease the chance of cancer-related fatigue, improve mood, and combat insomnia. It can also help prevent the loss of bone mass in myeloma patients, which is crucial since myeloma affects the bones.

The Linda B. and Robert B. Wiggins Wellness Center at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), located on the first floor of Huntsman Cancer Institute, promotes physical and emotional well-being and a sense of balance for people diagnosed with cancer and for their loved ones.

Wellness Center programs and services complement the medical care of HCI myeloma patients during and after treatment. Patients undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma often find that adhering to an exercise schedule can be quite beneficial. Also, yoga and acupuncture can help myeloma patients who are having bone pain or other kinds of pain.

The Wellness Center offers the following services at no cost to patients:

  • A fitness program
  • Nutrition counseling
  • Acupuncture
  • Yoga classes
  • Hypnotherapy to help with anxiety and pain management
  • Classes for female cancer patients that teach beauty techniques to help with appearance-related side effects of cancer treatments, such as skin changes and hair loss (free cosmetics kit provided!)

You can find more detailed information about these programs and services by visiting the Wellness Center website or calling the Wellness Center at (801) 587-4585.
