Cancer Warning Signs

Be sure to get screened because many cancers can be prevented. Also look for the seven warning signs. These can be remembered by thinking about the word CAUTION.

Change in bowel or bladder habits.
A sore throat that does not heal.
Unusual bleeding or discharge.
Thickening or lump in breast or elsewhere.
Indigestion or difficulty in swallowing.
Obvious change in wart or mole.
Nagging cough or hoarseness.

Any symptom that persists for more than two weeks should be checked by a health care professional.

"I haven't always been good about getting screened for cancer. There was always an excuse: I was busy, we didn't have insurance, or I didn't know how to find the right resources. Now that I know what can happen, I make sure that I get my cancer screening, and that my family gets theirs, too."
