Hepatobiliary (Liver & Bile Duct) Cancer Research

The mission of the Hepatobiliary Cancer Research Program (HBCRP) at Huntsman Cancer Institute is twofold:

  • To encourage and stimulate basic science, clinical, and population-based research in liver cancer and hepatobiliary malignancies (those affecting the liver, bile ducts, and gallbladder)
  • To use those findings to better understand risks, prevention, and therapy for those cancers

Specifically, the HBCRP seeks to explore the genetic and biochemical pathways involved in development and growth of liver and biliary tract cancers, identify biomarkers helpful for early diagnosis, characterize molecular targets for effective therapeutic intervention, and serve as a constant base for faculty support to improve the growing understanding of hepatic malignancies.
