Patient Rights and Responsibilities

  • Privacy – You have a right to privacy during your hospital stay. Huntsman Cancer Institute abides by HIPAA laws, which are federal laws entitling patients privacy and confidentiality. If you choose to release information about your condition, your nurse will provide you with a special code. This code should be shared with a select number of family members or friends. It helps us identify the person calling as someone authorized to receive information.
  • Just Ask! We encourage you to ask questions during your stay. You should understand the documents you sign. If anything is unclear, please questions about all consent and medical forms.
  • Think of the word CANCheck, Ask, Notify.
Check to see if you are getting the medication your doctor prescribed.
Ask questions if you have concerns.
Notify a nurse or doctor if you think something isn't right.

Remember, you are the most important member of your health-care team.
