| Currently housed at University Hospital, the Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Unit is part of Huntsman Cancer Hospital (HCH) and will move to HCH upon completion of the hospital expansion, scheduled for fall 2011. Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation is used to treat a variety of malignant, nonmalignant, and genetically determined diseases involving the blood, marrow, and lymphatic systems. Inpatient stays typically last from two to three weeks for autologous transplants (patient serves as their own donor) and as many as six weeks for allogeneic transplants (stem cells come from another person). After discharge, follow-up care takes place at Huntsman Cancer Hospital’s outpatient BMT Clinic. Marina Fernandez |
