| The operating rooms of the cancer hospital provide world-class care to both inpatient and outpatient oncology surgical patients. The operating room (OR) unit consists of five rooms with plans to increase to eight rooms with the hospital expansion scheduled for completion in fall 2011. Our OR utilizes some of the most advanced surgical techniques, equipment and materials that are available for general surgery, urology, plastics, gynecology oncology, otolaryngology, neurosurgery and orthopedic surgical services. Our team is comprised of RNs, surgical technicians, health care assistants and anesthesia technicians. In cooperation with our renowned team of surgeons, we provide excellent care to approximately 250 patients each month. We have an OR internship program for RNs, with or without experience, who are interested in pursuing surgical nursing. This internship program incorporates skills and information not usually included in nursing school programs, to prepare individuals for the exciting and challenging role of an OR nurse.
