The Huntsman Cancer Institute Nursing Education Department is staffed by six oncology certified nurse educators who provide orientation, skills training, staff development and just-in-time training for nursing staff in all inpatient and outpatient clinical areas. The oncology educators are department based, providing an oncology service line orientation to all nursing new hires and annual oncology based skill competency verification. All nurses have the opportunity to complete Huntsman Cancer Institute's Oncology Basics course for continuing education hours. To promote national certification, nurses may participate in department sponsored Oncology Certification Nursing review seminars or Advanced Oncology Certification review seminars.

Huntsman Cancer Institute offers the following internships and fellowships:

The department also sponsors education programs available to non-Huntsman Cancer Institute employees. The department sponsors an annual oncology conference, offering continuing education contact hours to nurses, social workers, and advanced practice providers.

Twice each year, the department offers the Oncology Nursing Society’s Chemotherapy-Biotherapy Course. The nurse educators are available to consult in training programs on safe administration of hazardous drugs and central line care.
