Michael A. Pulsipher, MD

Michael Pulsipher, MD, serves as acting program director of the Huntsman Cancer Institute/University of Utah Hospitals and Clinics Blood and Marrow Transplant Program and medical director of pediatric blood and marrow transplantation at Primary Children’s Medical Center. In addition, Pulsipher is assistant professor of both hematology and pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine.

Pulsipher’s work and research focus on transplantation of blood and of marrow, the soft tissue within bones that manufactures blood cells. He is particularly interested in developing safer methods of blood and bone marrow transplants for adults and children who have diseases such as leukemia.

Working with Huntsman Cancer Institute since 2002 and the University of Utah School of Medicine since 1999, Pulsipher previously served as a clinical and research fellow in pediatric hematology and oncology at Children's Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, Massachusetts. He also was an attending physician in bone marrow transplant and did research in gene therapy at Harvard Medical School. Pulsipher obtained his BA in 1986 from Brigham Young University, where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. In 1990, he received his medical degree from Stanford University. While there, Pulsipher received many honors, including the Dean's Award for Outstanding Contributions in Teaching.

In addition to numerous published works, Pulsipher actively contributes to national research, participating in leadership roles and running large cooperative group studies with the Children's Oncology Group, the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research, and the Pediatric Blood and Marrow Transplant Consortium.
