Ali Choucair, MD, is an adjunct professor in the Department of Neurosurgery, adjunct clinical professor in the Department of Medicine, and program associate in the Division of Medical Ethics at the University of Utah School of Medicine. He is also medical director of neuro-oncology with Intermountain Healthcare and an attending physician in neuro-oncology and investigator at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

In addition to neurology and neuro-oncology, his teaching specialties include medical ethics as well as cultural competence and mutual respect in health care. For the latter, he has determined curriculum for students in various University of Utah Health Sciences programs, including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and physical therapy. He is also a member of the full-time teaching faculty at LDS Hospital, instructing residents and medical students of internal medicine. He teaches neurology residents at University Hospital.

Choucair received his medical degree from the University of Calgary School of Medicine in Alberta, Canada. He was then an internal medicine resident at Foothills Hospital in Calgary and in neurology at University Hospital. Choucair then completed a fellowship in neuro-oncology at the University of California San Francisco.

In addition to serving on local committees, including as chairman of LDS Hospital’s ethics committee, Choucair participates on the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group’s brain steering committee and on the Society for Neuro-Oncology’s awards and international committees.
