A National Cancer Institute caBIG® Support Service Provider

The caBIG® Training Site at the University of Utah (U of U) is a designated National Cancer Institute (NCI) support service provider for caBIG training materials and services.

The cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid (caBIG®) is a publically available infrastructure initiative led by the NCI. The infrastructure includes standards for data sharing and collaboration, software tools and applications, data repositories, and an information network to enable the cancer research community.

The caBIG Training Site hosted at Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the U of U is a premier source for the development of advanced knowledge and expertise in biomedical informatics technologies and research. The Department of Biomedical Informatics was established in 1964 at the U of U and is internationally recognized as a leader in biomedical informatics research and education.

Biomedical informatics is a field integrating biology and medicine to improve health outcomes through the use of information systems. Information is obtained from many sources, including data from population sciences research, genomic research, tissue specimens, and clinical trials.
