Wesley Sundquist, PhD

Professor, Department of Biochemistry

Wesley Sundquist, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Utah and a member of the Cell Response and Regulation Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute.

Sundquist studies the molecular and structural biology of retroviruses, with an emphasis on HIV. His work on HIV led him to study the cellular machinery that facilitates endocytosis and membrane receptor turnover. Sundquist has become a leader in this area of cell biology and has made important contributions to the field through both structural and functional analysis. Work from the Sundquist lab has also revealed a role for this intracellular trafficking machinery in cytokinesis. Sundquist is a nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) expert and helps to oversee the BioNMR Shared Resource.

Sundquist received a bachelor's degree from Carleton College, Minnesota, and a PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
