Alun Thomas, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah and a member of the Cancer Control and Population Sciences Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Thomas studies computational statistics, mathematical genetics, and genome sequencing and analysis. His work involves methods to classify genotypes for known cancer susceptibility genes (BRCA1 and BRCA2). He develops statistical methods for the genetic mapping of breast cancer in large Utah families.
Thomas received a BSc from Coleg Pryfysgol Cymru, United Kingdom, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.
